FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international organization that was founded to inspire grade school and high school students to pursue a career in STEM. The organization offers robotics programs for different age groups where students work in teams to design, build, program and compete with their robot. Tichonet High School, home to the MA (Makers Assemble) robotics teams, was founded five years ago with the vision of being an innovative educational pioneer. The Tichonet robotics center is home to five FIRST teams with over 100 students from 7th to 12th grade. The vision of MA robotics is “FIRST for Everyone” and we practice this vision by founding the first robotics teams in Israel for autistic and deaf students, and by mentoring younger unprivileged students in south Tel Aviv. In addition to the annual competition, FIRST encourages teams to give back to their communities. Our team focuses a lot of its time, resources and attention on community work throughout the year. In the past 2 years we’ve been implementing our vision in the following way: Opening the first and only FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams in Israel for autistic kids Working with Enabling the future to print 3D hands for children born with physical disabilitiesOpening the first and only FIRST LEGO League team in Israel for deaf kids.Mentoring younger FIRST teams in our school – We are going to have 4 younger teams working with us in the school – they are the future of the teamMentoring and guiding many Rookie FIRST Robotics teams in Israel – We received help in our first year and we would like to give back.3D printing prosthetic hands for kids with disabilitiesand much more... Our robot also something to be proud of – Every year we manage to build a better, more successful robot, this year we qualified to the Israeli district championship and made it to the finals For all of this work our team has won many awards – to name a few, we won the Gracious professionalism award that talks about always willing to help others, the Imagery award that is given to team with outstanding visual aesthetic integration of machine and team appearance, and the prestigious Engineering Inspiration award that Celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community. *YouTube:oXNoj_aTGxI*
